Use Toolmu search-volunteer-opportunities-idealist to find opportunities from ordinary cause/role keywords and participation preferences. Reuse a working Toolmu connection or follow https://toolmu.com/SKILL.md to connect. Check current inputs, availability and all credit ceilings; discovery and pages must fit my authorization and total budget. Prepare actual keywords internally and map clear onsite, remote or hybrid preferences to documented choices. If I request cause filtering, use only the documented source values for the ordinary cause names; unfamiliar or unsupported causes require clarification rather than invented codes. For multiple causes the source does not document all-match versus any-match combination, so compare actual returned labels with my interests instead of claiming every condition applied. Manage the initial zero-indexed page and more pages internally only when I ask. Do not ask me for codes, coordinates, meters or cursors. For local requests ask for a familiar city/place and distance, and prepare geographic fields only after a reliable supported lookup returns an unambiguous location, converting units internally. Never invent coordinates or present a location keyword as a radius filter; if location cannot be confirmed, clarify a familiar address or my choice to use non-geographic search. Show actual introductions, hosts, cause labels, participation and remote geographic conditions, retaining non-exhaustive counts and missing information. A remote label does not mean unrestricted geography, and results do not guarantee vacancy or eligibility. Retain real selected row information for a separately requested full-detail lookup within the cumulative budget; do not apply or book participation.

Idealist

Find Idealist volunteer opportunities by cause and location

Describe the volunteer topic and whether you want onsite, remote or hybrid participation. Your assistant prepares supported choices and reviews actual opportunities, hosts and geographic conditions.

You receive

A page of Idealist volunteer opportunity summaries with role titles, organization names, descriptions, cause tags and source page references. Read participation type and any remote geographic scope alongside the source-reported page and matching count.

Start with your task

Find Idealist volunteer opportunities related to [cause or role keywords] with [participation arrangement, such as remote]. Start with the first page and show each role’s host, introduction, cause labels, geographic conditions and source page.

What to know

Search summaries do not establish a current opening, eligibility or a complete list of opportunities. Check the selected listing’s fuller conditions before participating; remote labels can carry geographic restrictions, and source counts may be non-exhaustive.

Inputs & outputs

Inspect the current inputs, availability, and maximum charge before starting.

Result schema

No fixed output contract is available. Field types reflect saved result evidence; individual responses can differ.

Result schema
Field / Path	Type	Meaning
Volunteer listing summaries`result.data.hits`	`array`	Entries on this response page. The source documents 20 results per page; a response may contain fewer. These are summaries for selecting opportunities to examine further.
Opportunity title`result.data.hits[].name`	`string`	Source title of the volunteer opportunity.
Host organization name`result.data.hits[].orgName`	`string`	Organization named in the listing; a directory name does not independently establish its legal status.
Opportunity identifier`result.data.hits[].objectID`	`string`	Idealist record identifier for a selected opportunity. Use it when requesting that opportunity’s separate detail record.
English source page`result.data.hits[].url.en`	`string`	English Idealist page reference supplied for this listing.
Listing introduction`result.data.hits[].description`	`string`	Source introduction to the role and context. It can contain participation conditions; read the selected opportunity’s detail or source page for further instructions.
Returned cause tags`result.data.hits[].areasOfFocus`	`array`	List of source cause tags on this opportunity. Preserve the returned labels when checking whether a role matches your interests.
Listed participation type`result.data.hits[].locationType`	`string`	Source classification such as ONSITE, REMOTE or HYBRID. A remote classification does not remove geographic or other participation conditions.
Listed city`result.data.hits[].city`	`string \| null`	City associated with the listing. Read it alongside participation type and remote scope.
Listed country`result.data.hits[].country`	`string \| null`	Country associated with the listing, separate from any remote participation scope.
Remote geographic scope`result.data.hits[].remoteZone`	`string \| null`	Source scope label: CITY, STATE, COUNTRY or WORLD when provided. Null leaves this field unspecified; it does not establish worldwide access.
Remote country condition`result.data.hits[].remoteCountry`	`string \| null`	Source country code when supplied for remote participation. Preserve null rather than adding a country.
Remote state condition`result.data.hits[].remoteState`	`string \| null`	Source state or region code when supplied for remote participation.
Returned page number`result.data.page`	`number`	Source page number, starting at 0.
Reported matching count`result.data.nbHits`	`number`	Source-reported search count. Read it with exhaustive.nbHits; a non-exhaustive count is not an exact inventory of all opportunities.
Count exhaustiveness flag`result.data.exhaustive.nbHits`	`boolean`	Source Boolean indicating whether the reported match count is exhaustive. False means the count should not be presented as an exhaustive total.

Additional notes

For nearby volunteer opportunities, provide the target area’s latitude and longitude and a radius in meters. For remote volunteer opportunities, request REMOTE and review each listing’s country, region or city conditions; the Tool does not automatically locate you.

Use the introductions and cause tags to make a shortlist, then retain each selected objectID for a separate opportunity detail lookup. Time commitments, application steps and participant requirements need the selected record’s context; a search page is not a full participation agreement.
