Blockchain TVL History by Chain | DefiLlama
Enter one chain slug, such as ethereum, base or arbitrum, to get that chain's historical TVL series. Valid slugs come from DefiLlama's /chains list or the chains field on /protocols. The call takes no date range, no multiple chains and no protocol filter.
You receive
One call returns the selected chain's historical TVL as date and value points, excluding liquid staking and double-counted TVL. Output fields are unpublished, so read the series. This is one chain's history, not a ranking or price. Pay per use, no subscription; catalog maximum $0 per call.

Additional notes
Follow the TVL history of one blockchain
Use this tool when a report needs the historical total value locked on one chain, rather than a current ranking of every chain. It retrieves DefiLlama's chain-level history with liquid staking and double-counted TVL excluded. A researcher can use that series to describe changes over time or provide a dated baseline for a chain ecosystem report.
Choose a valid chain identifier
Provide pathParams.chain using an identifier accepted by DefiLlama; Ethereum is the documented example. Valid values can be discovered from DefiLlama's chains list or the chains field on protocol records. A protocol slug, wallet address or token address is not a chain identifier. There is one chain input, with no date range, multiple-chain selection or protocol filter.
Understand the dated values
The official endpoint documents an array of points containing date, a Unix timestamp in seconds, and tvl, the value in US dollars for the selected chain. Convert the timestamps to a consistent UTC date when joining another dataset. The returned coverage can vary by chain and provider updates. The latest point is the latest observation supplied, not a promise of a live intraday reading.
Prepare a chart or period comparison
Check the first and last available dates, then select the points needed for your analysis from the returned series. A month or quarter is a downstream selection, not a date-range parameter on this tool. For comparisons with a second chain, obtain its series separately and align the dates and units before calculating changes. Missing points should not automatically be treated as zero TVL.
Interpret TVL changes carefully
USD TVL depends on asset prices as well as deposited balances. A falling value therefore does not, by itself, establish that users withdrew capital. The default exclusions also differ from dashboards with optional liquid-staking or double-counting toggles enabled. This endpoint does not produce individual protocol histories, wallet balances, token prices or an investment return forecast.
Use one DefiLlama-supported chain identifier in pathParams.chain. Ethereum is the official example; valid values come from the chains list or chains field on protocol records.
The current input selects one chain only. Query other chains separately, and select a reporting period from the returned dated points afterwards.
date is a Unix timestamp in seconds. tvl is the selected chain's total value locked in US dollars for that observation. Check the actual Toolmu result before assuming a fixed output mapping.
No. This historical series excludes those categories. Results can differ from dashboards where optional inclusion toggles are enabled.
No. USD TVL can fall when asset prices fall even if balances are unchanged. Use appropriate flow or balance data to establish deposits and withdrawals.
No. This tool returns the history for one selected chain. The no-input all-chains tool returns DefiLlama's combined historical DeFi TVL series.
