DeFi TVL — all-chains history · DefiLlama
Run with no chain or protocol. Get DefiLlama DeFi TVL history across all chains, excluding liquid staking and double-counted TVL. Finish that series here: one Toolmu account, pay per use, no subscription. Not current TVL by chain, not one protocol, not RWA totals.
You receive
Receive DefiLlama's unpublished all-chains historical DeFi TVL series (liquid staking and double-counted TVL removed). Inspect the payload first. Listed, no public maximum single-call price. Does not rank chains, look up a protocol, or return liquid-staking rates.
Start with your task
Retrieve DefiLlama’s combined historical DeFi TVL, explain the units and exclusions, and summarize the available dated observations.
Inputs & outputs
Inspect the current inputs, availability, and maximum charge before starting.
Use this tool to retrieve DefiLlama's combined historical DeFi total value locked across its tracked chains. It is useful when a report needs the broad ecosystem's direction over time before investigating a particular chain or protocol. The series excludes liquid staking and double-counted TVL, preserving this endpoint's defined comparison scope.
Run without a chain or protocol
This tool takes no input fields. Submit an empty input object to retrieve the available all-chains series; do not add a chain name, protocol slug, wallet address or token contract. The current contract also has no date range, cadence or inclusion toggle. For one chain, use the separate chain-history tool rather than interpreting the combined total as a chain-specific result.
Read each dated observation
DefiLlama's official response documentation describes an array with date, a Unix timestamp in seconds, and tvl, the combined value in US dollars. Each point represents the supplied observation for that date. Convert timestamps to a consistent UTC date and confirm the first and last points before joining a chart or research dataset. The latest point is not guaranteed to be a live intraday quote.
Select the reporting period after retrieving the series
For a weekly, monthly or quarterly note, select the needed dated points from the returned history. Check that observations exist for the dates being compared, use consistent units, and record the lookup time so the report can be reproduced. Coverage and historical values may change with provider updates. Missing observations are not equivalent to zero TVL.
Distinguish total value from capital flows
A change in USD TVL can reflect both asset prices and balance changes. It does not independently show how much capital entered or left DeFi. The combined series also does not rank chains, break down individual protocols, return a wallet's holdings or measure investment returns. Compare it with sources using the same exclusions before drawing conclusions from differences in headline totals.
None. The input schema is an empty object with no chain, protocol, date or wallet fields. Submit an empty input to request the available combined history.
It covers DefiLlama's historical DeFi TVL across tracked chains, with liquid staking and double-counted TVL excluded. It is not a per-chain ranking or an individual protocol history.
The current tool has no date-range parameter. Retrieve the series, check its dated observations, and select the reporting period afterwards.
date is a Unix timestamp in seconds and tvl is the combined total in US dollars. Inspect the actual Toolmu result before relying on a fixed field mapping.
The endpoint excludes liquid staking and double-counted TVL. A dashboard using different inclusion toggles, dates or coverage can show a different value; compare the same scope first.
No. USD TVL can decline because the underlying assets fall in price as well as because balances change. It is not a direct net-flow or investment-return measure.
